Skills for Security set to champion future talent at The Security Event

SKILLS FOR Security is attending The Security Event (which runs at the NEC from 28-30 April) in order to highlight the importance of structured training and apprenticeships, supporting skills and competence across the security and fire sectors.

Positioned between The Security Event and The Fire Safety Event, Stand P10 in Hall 4 will boast a football theme in honour of the World Cup, with Skills for Security showcasing how upskilling teams and recruiting apprentices can strengthen the workforce of today’s businesses operating in both sectors.

Skills for Security will also host a dedicated area for the national qualifiers of the WorldSkills UK Electronic Fire and Security Competition, which aims to see 30 apprentices take part and showcase their skills. The competition aims to assess practical ability and industry knowledge across fire systems, intrusion detection and access control, in turn reflecting the skills required of engineers.

Standard of talent

David Scott, managing director of Skills for Security, stated: “The Security Event is always a key entry in our annual calendar, allowing us to bring skills and apprenticeships into a very visible space. Positioning ourselves between The Security Event and The Fire Safety Event reflects how closely connected these sectors are when it comes to training, competence and future workforce needs. Additionally, the WorldSkills UK competition affords apprentices a chance to demonstrate what they can do and gives employers confidence in the standard of talent coming through.”

Skills for Security is using the competition to support greater diversity within the industry with a first female judge from the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) involved in a bid to encourage more female apprentices to enter the competition. Increasing female representation remains a key focus as Skills for Security works towards challenging traditional perceptions and promotes inclusive career pathways.

Scott added: “Everything we’re doing at The Security Event and beyond is about strengthening the future of the industry. By investing in apprentices, promoting diversity and working closely with our partners, we’re helping to build a skilled and confident workforce that the security and fire safety sectors can rely on for many years to come.”

Industry partners

The WorldSkills UK competition is made possible through the support of several industry partners. Lead partners The Security Event, CSL, Texecom and Paxton ensure the competition remains accessible, relevant and valuable to apprentices and employers alike.

Supporting partners C-TEC, GS Yuasa Battery, Dahua, the National Security Inspectorate and the SSAIB contribute resources, expertise and services to enhance the competition and support its delivery.
