Skills for Security partners with WorldSkills UK at The Security Event

SKILLS FOR Security is continuing its collaboration with WorldSkills UK for the 2025 season by announcing that the electronic security and fire competitions will now be merged into a single category. This strategic move broadens the scope for participants to demonstrate expertise in both electronic security and fire safety systems.

By integrating these two crucial areas, Skills for Security feels that the competition better mirrors evolving demands, ensuring that future professionals are ideally equipped with the comprehensive skills needed to meet industry’s requirements.

Darrell Gilmour, director of technical training at Skills for Security, stated: “By combining the electronic security and fire systems competitions, we’re ensuring that competitors develop a well-rounded set of skills that reflect today’s integrated security and fire safety landscape. We believe this evolution will benefit the competitors and, indeed, the security and fire sectors as a whole.”

Applications for this year’s competition open at 9.00 am on 3 March and close on 17 March. The national qualifiers will be held at The Security Event on Stand D130 in Hall 5 at the NEC across all three days of the show, in turn bringing together 36 of the most talented competitors from across the UK.

Skills for Security will also be actively engaging with attendees at The Security Event, which runs from 8-10 April and is organised by the Nineteen Group, duly highlighting the wide range of training opportunities and initiatives available to support talent development within the security and fire safety domains.

David Scott, managing director of Skills for Security, observed: “It’s always a pleasure to host the competition qualifiers at The Security Event, where we can demonstrate the incredible skills and talent now emerging. Skills for Security remains committed to nurturing the next generation of security professionals. As such, this competition is a real opportunity to highlight the importance of continuous training and development in our sector.”

The competition is sponsored by the CSL Group, The Security Event and Texecom with additional support from Eaton, Yuasa UK, the National Security Inspectorate, the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board, Fenix Monitoring, Honeywell and Dahua, all of whom are dedicated to supporting excellence and innovation within the security and fire safety sectors.

Partnerships with leading brands

Skills for Security is also proud to announce new strategic partnerships with Videcon, Eagle Eye Networks and Paxton Access designed to enhance training opportunities for apprentices.

The three new partnerships with the UK’s leading provider of fire and security training and apprenticeships will enable wider scope for hands-on experience for trainees involving advanced security technologies.

By collaborating with these industry leaders, Skills for Security is integrating real-world applications into its courses and curriculum. Apprentices will gain new insights into Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven surveillance, cloud-based access control and smart security solutions, thereby equipping them with the knowledge and skills required for the modern security landscape.

David Scott noted: “As the security and fire industries evolve, it’s essential tht our training reflects the latest advancements. Our partnerships with Videcon, Eagle Eye Networks and Paxton allow apprentices to gain invaluable hands-on experience with innovative security systems, ensuring that they’re prepared for real-life integration operations.”

Videcon’s expertise in video surveillance, intrusion and access control, including the renowned brand Concept Pro, offers apprentices active experience with top-tier cameras, recorders and market leading AI technology. Featuring high-resolution imaging, night vision and intuitive interfaces, these technologies enhance apprentices’ understanding of modern security solutions for improving threat detection and active prevention in commercial and residential settings.

Eagle Eye Networks equips learners with a comprehensive understanding of cloud video surveillance, itself the fastest-growing segment of the security industry. Through hands-on training, apprentices will understand the basics of cloud technology, AI-powered analytics and secure remote video management.

They’ll also discover why an open, cloud-based video management system that easily integrates with third party technologies is the key to scalable and future-proof security solutions.

Future-proof access control

Paxton provides in-depth training on future-proof access control, demonstrating seamless security integration for businesses and institutions. Learners will gain hands-on experience with smart phone-based access via Bluetooth and NFC, as well as integration with cameras, alarms and building management systems. This will prepare them to implement scalable and intelligent security solutions.

These partnerships highlight Skills for Security’s commitment to providing high-quality training that aligns with industry needs. By working alongside leading technology providers, the organisation ensures that apprentices receive up-to-date practical training, making them valuable assets to employers.

David Scott concluded: “Our mission is to ensure that our apprentices continue to receive training that goes beyond theory, integrating the latest technologies and Best Practice to meet industry demands. Forming such strong strategic partnerships with innovative brands allows us to remain at the forefront of apprenticeship development, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in what is a dynamic and ever-evolving security landscape.”
