FYRFLY SYSTEMS has been launched as a specialist physical security provider serving schools, colleges, local authorities, National Health Service estates and central Government bodies across the UK.
The brainchild of founder Simon Legrand, the Faversham-based business offers end-to-end security solutions across six disciplines: surveillance, access control, intruder alarms, fire safety systems, wireless networks and 24/7 monitoring.
All solutions are delivered via in-house capabilities and in accordance with the relevant British Standards, including BS EN 62676, BS 8243 and BS 5839. Systems are designed to comply with DfE security guidelines, Keeping Children Safe in Education and the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law.
Legrand harbours a combined background across public sector institutions and global technology infrastructure that’s somewhat unusual in the security industry. Prior to founding Fyrfly, Legrand spent 14 years as a professional and consultant across the public and academic sectors.
He subsequently co-founded Sunstone Systems back in 2011, growing the business across 13 years to become a globally recognised platform for solar-powered surveillance, autonomous power and Internet of Things telecommunications, delivering contracts with Chevron, Rivian Automotive and Telent and earning three granted patents.
Compliance-heavy environments
“Schools and public sector organisations are routinely underserved by the security market,” asserted Legrand. “They’re complex and compliance-heavy environments with genuine safeguarding obligations, but too many solution providers treat them as a variant of commercial or retail security.”
He continued: “Fyrfly has been built specifically for these environments, with the sector knowledge, standards alignment and end-to-end accountability that they require.”
The new venture operates on a ‘no subcontracting’ model, with a single team accountable from site survey through installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance. This approach is purpose-designed to eliminate the gaps in responsibility that frequently arise when different contractors are engaged for different disciplines.
With the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 in force from early next year, Fyrfly Systems is positioned to support organisations navigating their new statutory obligations. The company offers documentation and systems design aligned to both Standard Duty and Enhanced Duty requirements, alongside full compliance support for the transition period.
The initial focus is on education and public sector organisations across London, the South East and East Anglia, with national coverage for larger estate requirements.
