MAGENTA SECURITY – the provider of security guarding, mobile patrols, surveillance monitoring, key holding and alarm response in addition to event security and cyber security training – is actively supporting the petition in Parliament calling for assaulting a security worker to become a standalone offence, duly adding its voice to growing calls for greater protection for the people who help keep businesses, venues and members of the public safe.
For Magenta Security, the issue goes beyond enforcement. It’s about fairness, recognition and respect for a profession that’s too often expected to manage risk, de-escalate conflict and respond to incidents without the level of protection that role deserves.
The company firmly believes that better protection for security workers would send a clear message that violence and abuse perpetrated against front line personnel will not be tolerated.
Vital role
Abbey Petkar (managing director of Magenta Security, executive chair of the Small Business Network and an Advisory Board Member of the International Foundation for Protection Officers’ UK branch) informed Security Matters: “Security officers play a vital role in public safety. They’re often the first people to step in when tensions rise, risks emerge or members of the public need help. Yet too many officers continue to face verbal abuse, intimidation and physical assault simply for doing their job.”
Petkar continued: “At Magenta Security, we believe in professionalism, responsibility and looking after people properly. Supporting this petition is entirely consistent with those values. If we expect security officers to protect others, then the law should properly recognise and protect them as well.”
Further, Petkar urged: “I would encourage everyone across the industry, along with clients, partners and members of the public who believe in safer workplaces and higher standards, to read the petition and sign it if they agree. This is an opportunity to show that the people who protect others should not be left unprotected themselves.”
Higher standards
Magenta Security has long championed higher standards across the security profession, with a strong focus on ethical business practice, staff well-being, professionalism and long-term responsibility.
The company believes that meaningful change happens when industry leaders speak clearly, act responsibly and support measures that improve conditions for front line teams.
