Fenix Monitoring joins ongoing Skills for Security industry initiative

CCTV AND intruder alarm monitoring business Fenix Monitoring has become the first Alarm Receiving Centre to join the list of partners signed up to assist with Skills for Security’s mission aimed at closing the skills gap and creating the next generation of fire and security engineering professionals.

Like many dedicated business sectors, the UK’s private security industry harbours a defined need to continually improve the skills landscape within such that this key sector remains competitive and relevant in what is now an ever-changing world.

Set within that context, Skills for Security’s role is to help organisations devise, plan, budget for, implement and measure skills development programmes and apprenticeships. In practice, this role can include helping businesses to use funds set aside by the Apprenticeship Levy in order to establish their own learning academies.

For some time now, Skills for Security has been firmly focused on raising awareness of the key challenges facing the sector, which include the skills gap crisis, the apparent lack of career pathways and the issues that follow in terms of difficulties around staff recruitment and subsequent retention.

Commendably and importantly, Skills for Security has highlighted the initiative at every key industry event run this year to date, in tandem with running a dedicated forum at the House of Lords, which received widespread acclaim from those in attendance.

The latest company to sign up to what is a list of the industry’s leading brands lending their support, Fenix Monitoring has been present at each of these events. Renowned throughout the industry for outstanding customer service and response times, Fenix Monitoring provided the real-time alarm monitoring for the Engineers of Tomorrow competition and will deliver a similar service for apprentice engineers across the Skills for Security training centre locations.

Bringing the sector together

Kelly Knowles, commercial director of Fenix Monitoring, informed Security Matters: “We hope that our contribution to the cause will assist in bringing the sector together to talk about the major issues we are all facing. We’re very excited to be part of the proposed solution.”

Indeed, Fenix Monitoring is a long-time supporter of Skills for Security, having first backed the organisation in 2021. In the days before Skills for Security had established its Watford office, Fenix Monitoring allowed the use of its own Oxford premises to help grow apprentice numbers in the South of England.

David Scott, managing director at Skills for Security, observed: “Without the support of companies like Fenix Monitoring, we wouldn’t be where we are today in terms of our roadmap. We are continually grateful for the support in the past and, moving forward, that ongoing support will enable us to create a strong and sustainable future for the fire and security sectors.”

Skills for Security offers training, specialist services, information, advice and guidance to employers, employees and trainers in the private security sector. Pleasingly, the organisation has witnessed significant growth in recent years whereby apprenticeship numbers have risen considerably. This growth has been due to a mixture of increased employer engagement and improved delivery of high-quality learning and teaching.
