DETERTECH – THE specialist in site security, forensic marking and crime intelligence – has participated in the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s latest Community Engagement Programmes, subsequently providing educational and impactful crime prevention advice at the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub.
Over 60 young people took part in an interactive session on crime deterrence and forensic marking, in turn gaining valuable insight into how technology can help protect people and communities.
The community engagement follows on from the announcement of DeterTech’s partnership with Premier League club Brentford FC as its official site security partner, which was announced back in April (as reported at the time by Security Matters).
Forensic marking
As part of DeterTech’s ongoing commitment to building safer communities, participants learned about SmartWater, the cutting-edge forensic marking technology that deters theft and aids in criminal investigations.
Each attendee left with their own SmartWater forensics marking kit that they can use to mark their own belongings, such as their mobile phone.
Owned by DeterTech, SmartWater is a ‘traceable liquid’ that provides a legally irrefutable way of identifying stolen property and linking criminals to their crimes. It retains a 100% conviction rate in contested court cases and has been instrumental in securing convictions, including for mobile phone snatching and residential burglaries.
Greater peace of mind
Jared Fairlie, national business development manager at DeterTech, said: “Our purpose at DeterTech is to bring greater peace of mind to people and communities every day. Sessions like this create a structured environment for children to mix with their friends and gives them a safe space to do so throughout the school year and summer holidays. Engaging directly with the community also helps us to better understand local concerns and tailor our solutions to meet real needs. It has been a fantastic experience working with Brentford Football Club and the Trust and seeing the positive impact.”
Fairlie added: “Being able to speak directly to the community at these events helps us to understand the issues involved and then we can use this information to actually build upon how we can help make those communities safer.”
Sharing knowledge
Adam Ward, head of partnership services at Brentford FC, commented: “We’re fortunate to have the support of our partner, DeterTech, which has shared its knowledge on crime prevention with young participants at this event.”
Ward added: “DeterTech has been keen to engage and help in building a safer community. As a result of its expertise, our participants will be more aware of how criminals and theft can be deterred. We’re grateful for the company’s involvement and our colleagues at the Trust for organising the event.”
