BSIA issues important reminder to UK Alarm Receiving Centres

Dave Wilkinson, director of technical services at the BSIA, commented: “While we are grateful to those ARCs that have already responded, participation levels in the survey remain relatively low. The responses received so far suggest that a moderate volume of alarm signalling connections may still be operating via PSTN-based services, highlighting the importance of obtaining a more complete picture of industry readiness.”

The withdrawal of PSTN services is now fast approaching. Without accurate industry data, it’s going to become increasingly more difficult for the BSIA and industry stakeholders to target awareness campaigns and support activities where they’re most needed.

Responses to the survey will help the Trade Association to:

*measure the industry’s current state of readiness

*estimate the volume of remaining PSTN-connected signalling systems

*identify barriers to migration

*shape one final industry-wide awareness campaign aimed at installers, maintainers and end users

The message remains simple: if alarm signalling systems have not yet been migrated to suitable digital connectivity solutions, the time to act is now.

“If you have not already completed the survey,” concluded Wilkinson, “please take a few minutes to do so and help us to ensure the industry’s final transition away from PSTN is based on the best possible data.”
