Chris Stevens announced as chair elect by The Security Institute

IN LINE with The Security Institute’s continuing commitment to professionalism, strong governance and Best Practice, Chris Stevens CSyP FSyI (currently vice-chair of the Board of Directors) has been appointed chair elect as Julie Nel CSyP FSyI stands down having served in the role of chair for the past three years.

The Institute’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) runs on 25 June, at which point Stevens becomes the organisation’s new chair. The Board extends its sincere thanks to Julie Nel for her “leadership, dedication and significant contribution” to the Institute during her tenure as chair.

For clarity, Nel will remain in post as chair ahead of the AGM, with Stevens working alongside her to ensure a structured and effective transition. This planned approach supports continuity in leadership, stability in governance and a clear focus on delivering the Institute’s strategic objectives.

Following the AGM, Stevens will then formally assume the role of chair.

Extensive experience

Chris Stevens brings extensive experience across policing, transport security and major infrastructure projects to the role alongside a strong commitment towards advancing the security profession.

In his role as vice-chair, he has been an active contributor to the Board’s work, supporting strategic direction and governance. As chair, Stevens will continue to work closely with the Board and head office to maintain momentum and support the Institute’s continued growth and influence.

Strong governance

Speaking about the news, Sarah Austerberry CSyP FSyI (CEO of The Security Institute) observed: “Chris’ appointment as chair elect reflects our commitment to strong governance and effective succession planning. His experience gained as vice-chair, combined with his wider professional background, ensures continuity in leadership and positions the Institute to continue delivering on its strategic priorities.”

The Security Institute remains dedicated to promoting professionalism, supporting its members and enhancing its influence as the leading professional body for security practitioners.
