THE CITY Security Council – itself formed to foster collaborative partnerships between city-based security companies and the City of London Police – has announced the appointment of three honorary patrons: Ian Dyson CBE QPM DL, Richard Woolford MBE CSyP FSyI and Figen Murray OBE.
Ian Dyson served as the City of London Police Commissioner at the launch of the City Security Council and played a key role in ensuring that the City of London Police fully supported and engaged with the City Security Council from the very beginning.
Richard Woolford, the strategic counter-terrorism and security advisor for the City of London Corporation, has provided unwavering support to the City Security Council from Day One, ensuring an ongoing and strong collaboration between the two organisations.
Figen Murray is a passionate security advocate and the initiator of Martyn’s Law, which is aimed at enhancing safety within public venues. Following the tragic loss of her son, Martyn Hett, in the Manchester Arena bombing, Figen has dedicated herself to raising awareness and influencing policy designed to improve community resilience.
A long-time supporter of the City Security Council, Figen continues to contribute her expertise and commitment to creating a safer environment for all.
Strategic Stakeholder Group
In parallel news, the Board of the City Security Council has confirmed that the City Security Council Advisory Board will be renamed the City Security Council Strategic Stakeholder Group. That change is effective immediately. This new name emphasises its vital role in shaping the broader vision of the City Security Council and increasing sector engagement.
The change also highlights its role as an essential sub-group within the main City Security Council, ensuring that industry perspectives are effectively incorporated into the Council’s security initiatives. The group will be co-chaired by Graham Bassett MSyI and Ian Dyson, both of whom bring extensive expertise and leadership to this crucial collaboration.
The City Security Council extends its sincere gratitude to Don Randall MBE, who has chaired the Advisory Board since March 2022, for his dedicated leadership and valuable contributions during his tenure.
Employee Engagement Group
In addition, a new Employee Engagement Group has been created and is led by Jenni Jetzer, chair of the People and Well-Being Group. This new initiative aims to promote a more inclusive and responsive approach towards industry efforts and security strategies.
The Employee Engagement Group will provide a key platform for front line staff to share feedback on initiatives from regulators and industry bodies, as well as exchange insights, challenges and innovative ideas directly with industry leaders and decision-makers. Each member company can nominate a representative for each region where they are a member.
The Employee Engagement Group will meet quarterly, with each session lasting up to 90 minutes. Attendees can join either in person or online, making it flexible and accessible for all participants.
Jenni Jetzer stated: “Engaging with those who are on the front lines every day is essential. This new group will provide a valuable opportunity for front line staff to influence decision-making and help to shape policies that impact their daily work and well-being. I look forward to working closely with front line staff and industry colleagues in order to make a meaningful difference.”
Significant step forward
David Ward CSyP FSyI, founder of the City Security Council, commented: “The Employee Engagement Group marks a significant step forward in building a resilient and inclusive security sector that values and amplifies the insights of its front line workers.”
Ward concluded: “The City Security Council remains committed to creating a safer and more secure environment by empowering those who work tirelessly to protect it. We look forward to sharing more updates as our work continues.”
