THE CITY Security Council has announced the appointment of Scott Gough in the role of London chair with effect from January 2024. Gough succeeds Ashley Fernandes, who has served as chair for the past two years. Fernandes will remain on the Board of Directors.
Gough harbours over 25 years’ experience working at all levels of security and risk management across the London region. He has been involved with the City Security Council since its inception and has led the dedicated Operations Board for the past three years.
Further, Gough is a committee member of the City of London Crime Prevention Association and a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.
The City Security Council was originally established as a collective of premier security companies based in the City of London. The key objective has always been to work in close collaboration with – and in direct support of – the City of London Police and the City of London Corporation in times of crisis or when any significant event takes place in the City.
Since its inception, the Council has grown considerably in membership and its remit has also evolved. The organisation is now recognised as a leading and authoritative voice of the security industry and one that represents the interests of thousands of security officers. Membership is open to any UK-based security company that is registered on the Approved Contractor Scheme with the Security Industry Authority or is otherwise working towards the relevant British Standards.
Development of capabilities
Commenting on his new role, Gough stated: “I’m delighted to be chairing the London region for the next two years and look forward to working with all the member organisations as we continue to develop the capabilities and value of the Council.”
Gough continued: “I would like to thank Ashley for his tremendous work over the past two years as he diligently continued to build upon the solid foundations laid by Neill Catton and David Ward CSyP FSyI. The City Security Council has continually demonstrated the value of collaboration between our industry and our colleagues within the Emergency Services, all the while helping to showcase our incident response capabilities and raise awareness of the valuable contribution that front line security professionals make to the safety and security of the communities in which we live and work.”
David Ward, founder and director of the Council, responded: “Scott is an excellent appointment. He brings considerable knowledge and experience along with a huge amount of enthusiasm for the role. He’s in an ideal position to take over from Ashley and help continue forward momentum for the Council’s objectives during his term of office. We look forward to working with him.”
Ward concluded: “On behalf of all City Security Council members, I would like to place on record my thanks to Ashley Fernandes for his stalwart leadership and for all the great work that he has conducted in continuing to grow the Council for the benefit of all.”
