TECH-ENABLED security services business The Keyholding Company has officially become B Corp Certified, in turn joining a global community of circa 9,000 organisations wholly dedicated to meeting high standards of environmental and social impact.
B Corp is a global standard for ethical business practice established by B Lab, itself a non-profit organisation that’s working towards a common vision of “business as a force for good”. Being B Corp Certified represents a commitment to operating with transparency and accountability wherein businesses must balance profit with purpose.
For The Keyholding Company, this certification affirms the business’ commitment to ethical practices, sustainability and driving positive impacts within and across the security sector.
Path to success
In order to achieve certification, The Keyholding Company underwent B Lab’s rigorous B Impact Assessment, which evaluates performance across five key areas: Governance, Environment, Workers, Community and Customers.
The Keyholding Company believes that exceptional security services can co-exist with a commitment to protecting people and the planet and has viewed the attainment of B Corp certification as the ideal framework upon which to unite the many Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives already in place.
This belief drives the company’s commitment to impactful actions, such as introducing an electric vehicle fleet within its London operations, implementing transparent emissions reporting, fostering active ED&I strategies geared towards personal and professional development (such as the award-nominated ‘My TKC Journey’ initiative) and championing local businesses via its dedicated service partner network.
Community impact
“Our B Corp certification highlights the truism that the security industry should take its ethics, sustainability and community impact seriously,” explained Charlie Gordon Lennox, CEO at The Keyholding Company. “There’s an increasing call for responsible practices. We want to show that it’s possible to uphold high ethical standards while also maintaining operational excellence.”
Maintaining the B Corp certification requires an ongoing commitment, with companies needing to re-certify every three years and publish annual Impact Reports detailing how they’re tracking against various assessment criteria and sustainability objectives.
On that basis, there remains more work ahead for The Keyholding Company (which is an Approved Contractor with the Security Industry Authority). While extremely proud of reaching this milestone, the business is committed to continually raising standards and driving its vision of an inclusive, equitable and sustainable security industry.
