Synectics installs Redvision PTZ cameras for Great Yarmouth project

GREAT YARMOUTH is a picturesque seaside town straddling the River Yare and situated in the county of Norfolk. With a population of approximately 40,000 inhabitants, the town is renowned for its seaside tourism and the rich history realised by The Heritage Quarter.

For its part, Great Yarmouth Borough Council is committed to maximising the safety and security of residents and the bustling tourism community. The tourism industry contributes significantly to the economy of the local area, with 37% of all jobs in Great Yarmouth being tourism related.

In September last year, Gorleston Beach in Great Yarmouth was honoured to receibe the Travellers’ Choice Award from TripAdvisor in recognition of it being placed in the top 10% of visitor attractions worldwide.

Synectics Security is a specialist provider of integrated security solutions for complex, critical and highly regulated markets. With over 45 years’ experience, the business has forged excellent partnerships across the technology portfolio and gained deep expertise in providing large-scale surveillance and security solutions for the most demanding applications.

Synectics Security also boasts a long and successful track record in delivering tailored solutions for public space clients across the UK, making the business an ideal partner for the Great Yarmouth project.

Project challenges

The Great Yarmouth site poses challenges. For example, the seaside location brings with it a harsh salt water environment. When it came to the surveillance installation, the proposal included Synectics’ powerful and highly flexible Synergy platform and the Redvision X2 COMBAT rugged ball PTZ cameras, which are ideal for harsh environments.

In March last year, 56 X2 COMBATs were installed across the site. The full integration with Synergy, and the overall scalability of the system, will allow further installations to seamlessly integrate with the chosen security solution.

The X2 COMBAT IP PTZ camera is manufactured to marine quality as standard, with a die-cast aluminium body which is anodised before being powder coated. The long-life, custom-designed silicon wiper acts to remove water and debris from the camera window, thereby ensuring crystal clear images whatever the weather.

These cameras are supplied with optional IR illumination or dual IR and white light. However, for this installation, non-LED models were used due to the ambient lighting and the low-light CMOS sensor. High-quality images can be obtained day or night without illumination.

Recognised partner

Paul Morell, project engineer at Synectics Security, explained: “Redvision is one of our recognised partners and continues to provide high-quality, rugged CCTV equipment, which is ideal for the environmental hazards posed on the Great Yarmouth coast. The easy-to-use interface for the Synergy platform allows operators at Great Yarmouth to maintain unified control for 360-degree situational awareness.”

Will Hucker, general manager at Redvision CCTV, added: “We’re very pleased to have worked alongside Synectics Security in providing a state-of-the-art security system for Great Yarmouth. The rugged nature of the X2 COMBAT with its low-light capability creates the ideal PTZ camera for outdoor surveillance applications.”
