PINNACLE SYSTEMS has successfully partnered with Amulet to centralise safety and security monitoring at London Zoo, marking a significant step forward in modernising the famed venue’s infrastructure, while in parallel preserving its unique and historic character.
Located in the heart of Regent’s Park, London Zoo is one of the world’s most renowned visitor attractions and a vital hub for wildlife conservation. Spanning 36 acres, the site is nearly 200 years of age and presents complex challenges for infrastructure updates due to its varied equipment.
Committed to ensuring a safe environment for visitors, staff and animals, international conservation charity ZSL embarked on a major project to upgrade the fire, security and building management systems as part of a long-term modernisation plan.
Kelly Wessell, ZSL’s security and resilience manager, stated: “The Pinnacle team members have been a pleasure to work with. They’ve been supportive throughout the project. The system is user friendly and, with support from our security partner Amulet for install, the project has certainly been a success. I’m excited to continue working with Pinnacle as we take on the rest of the ZSL project using this unique ‘one platform’-style approach.”
Central focus
The central focus of this initiative was the integration and centralisation of London Zoo’s fire alarm systems, which were outdated and inadequate for such a complex estate.
By choosing Pinnacle Systems’ open integration platform, London Zoo has achieved a seamless connection between its fire alarm panels and the upgraded CCTV system. This integration enables real-time mapping of fire alarms, custom text alerts and public address messaging for rapid response and improved compliance with safety regulations.
The success of this partnership was made possible through the collaboration between Pinnacle and Amulet, the latter bringing its extensive expertise to the installation process and ensuring the project’s smooth delivery.
Amulet’s long-standing relationship with London Zoo allowed the company to tailor its approach in order to meet the client’s specific needs.
Paving the way for expansion
The success of the project at London Zoo has paved the way for its expansion to ZSL’s sister site, Whipsnade Zoo. Installation of Pinnacle’s platform has already commenced, integrating fire alarm monitoring alongside a CCTV upgrade.
Future plans include adding building management system alarms, lift alarms, disabled refuge alerts and temperature monitoring to safeguard animal welfare within enclosures.
Ric Martin, CEO of Pinnacle Systems, concluded: “Partnering with ZSL and Amulet has been an important opportunity. At Pinnacle, our goal is to make complex security systems easy to use and adaptable for the future. By providing a scalable and user-friendly solution, we’re helping to ensure safety and efficiency at these iconic sites, while supporting ZSL’s vital conservation work.”
