ISRM, Deltar Training and TINYg launch terrorism awareness training course

ACTS OF terrorism can no longer be considered as rare events limited to global geopolitics. There’s no community, neighbourhood or organisation that can consider itself as having been unaffected by recent developments in terrorist attacks and activities. Set against this backdrop, the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM), Deltar Training and TINYg have partnered in developing a new training course that leads to a Level 5 Award in Terrorism Awareness and Management.

From the highly organised through to the semi-structured and right down to the self-radicalised lone gunman or bomber, terrorism is as real as your next phone call or tomorrow’s headlines. Madrid (2004), London (2005), Mumbai (2006), Paris (2015), the Manchester Arena (20017), Salisbury Novichok (2018), Christchurch (2019), Sri Lanka (2019) and Nova Scotia (2020) are just some of the headline terror-related events across recent years, each of them unique in themselves.

An understanding of how and why these episodes took place provides an insight into the development process that allows an effective terrorism awareness and management programme to be put in place that will maximise the ability to detect/deter an attack, respond in the event that an attack was to take place and to manage the response and recovery programme in as effective a way as possible given the horrendous level of disruption and destruction that a successful terrorist attack can often realise.

The ISRM, Deltar Training and TINYg each have extensive experience of developing strategic risk/crisis management and terrorism management programmes in multiple contexts. The Level 5 Award in Terrorism Awareness and Management has been designed to be accessible to anyone responsible for developing security and risk management programmes, whatever their organisation or the specific context in which they’re operating.

Programme content

The programme builds on Deltar Training’s webinar format (with its broadcasts having encouraged over 10,000 registrants since the start of the global COVID-19 lockdown) and includes a fully developed support package for each of the modules.

The course programme includes the following:

*Introduction to the Fundamentals of Terrorism Awareness and Management

*Attack Methodologies: Rational Choice Theory and Target Selection Process

*Developing the Terrorism Management Risk Register

*Terrorism Management and Security Management: Co-Joined Twins

*Developing The Programme: Integration and Collaboration

*Mapping a Response: The Terrorism Management Playbook

*Capability Development: Training, Exercising and Validation

*The Nightmare Scenario: Responding to a Terrorist Event

*Preparing For The Aftermath: Emergency Management versus Crisis Response

The launch course runs from 4.00 pm-5.30 pm BST on Monday 7 June until Friday 11 June and is presently being offered at the reduced cost of £350 +VAT. The course fee includes full qualification registration and certification leading to an Ofqual-regulated, academically accredited Level 5 qualification in terrorism awareness and management.

About the course developers

The ISRM was founded in October 2018 and made its public launch in March 2019 with the purpose of creating a space and a platform for practitioners, academics and policy-makers alike to share information, exchange views and help to develop action-orientated policies that would support communities and assist organisations in making sense of the strategic risk and threat challenges the world is currently facing.

At present, the ISRM has 23 International Chapters across the Middle East, the Asia Pacific region, East and West Africa, Australasia, the US and Europe. Further, it has developed a global network of academic and research institutes, as well as forming collaborative relationships with some of the largest organisations around the globe.

Deltar Training Solutions is a training organisation specialising in all aspects of strategic risk and crisis management. It has a suite of Government regulated and academically accredited training programmes ranging from Level 4 (Vocational) and Level 5 (Management) programmes through to Level 6/Level 7 (ie Masters-level academic Diploma programmes).

At the start of the global COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020, the business developed a free-to-attend webinar programme in partnership with Emirates Group Security that has so far had 10,000-plus registrants from almost every country in the world.

TINYg (the Terrorism Information New York Group) was founded in 2006 by David Evans, CEO of Global Aware International (the London-based counter-terrorism and software solutions consultancy) and Kevin Cassidy (Professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice) to share information and develop personal and professional networks around issues of joint interest and concern in respect of the changing face of global terrorism.

Since its formation, TINYg has organised over 50 free-to-attend international conferences and issued upwards of 50,000 e-mail alerts to its subscribers in over 130 countries.
