HIS MAJESTY The King has been appointed Corps Security’s Royal Patron. His Majesty’s appointment began in May 2024, following a review of more than 1,000 Royal Patronages by The Royal Household following His Majesty The King’s Accession in September 2022.
King Charles’ patronage continues a long line of tradition that began back in 1901, when King Edward VII consented to head Corps Security’s list of governors followed by George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who was the longest serving patron from 1952 until 2022.
His Majesty has chosen to become the Royal Patron of The Corps of Commissionaires as the Chief Life Governor. His selection exemplifies the enduring relationship between the Royal Family and the dedicated security services offered by Corps Security for over 165 years. The news was received by the organisation on the first anniversary of His Majesty’s coronation.
In a joint statement, Corps Security’s president Lieutenant General Sir Robert Fulton KBE KStJ and Air Marshal Christopher Nickols CB CBE DL (chair of the Board of Directors) said: “We are delighted to announce that His Majesty King Charles III has accepted the Patronage of The Corps of Commissionaires as our Chief Life Governor.”
Mike Bullock, CEO at Corps Security, added: “The Corps of Commissionaires has been helping veterans in need since 1859 and this still holds true to this day. We are honoured that the Monarch has chosen to continue to support our organisation, a relationship first established with the support of His Majesty King Edward VII in 1901.”
Certified Social Enterprise
The Corps of Commissionaires Management Limited (now Corps Security) is a Certified Social Enterprise that was initially created to provide employment for ex-service personnel on their return from the Crimean War.
Corps Security is the only major Social Enterprise security provider in the UK and has been providing dedicated security services for over 160 years. The company’s services include security guarding, electronic solutions, state-of-the-art monitoring and security reviews and consultancy, all tailored to ensure the safety of property, assets and people.
Corps Security is a Living Wage Recognised Service Provider, while CEO Mike Bullock is a member of the Living Wage Foundation’s Recognised Service Provider Leadership Group. The organisation is also carbon neutral.
Corps Security supports several military charities, in particular Combat Stress (itself the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health) and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), which is the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.
In 2021, Corps Security was awarded Gold status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme for outstanding support towards members of the Armed Forces community.
