Canary Wharf Group appoints Corps Security to serve retail portfolio

CANARY WHARF Group has appointed Corps Security to deliver security services across its retail portfolio. Under the three-plus-two-year contract, more than 80 trained and Security Industry Authority-licensed security officers will deliver corporate and retail security services at the London Docklands estate.

Canary Wharf takes its name from the quay where fruit and vegetables imported from the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands were once unloaded. The once disused and derelict London Docklands site, formed by a loop in the River Thames, was transformed into a second financial district to rival the City of London in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

At present, circa 120,000 individuals work on the Canary Wharf Estate across 18 million sq ft of office, retail and leisure space, including more than 300 shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, fitness facilities and other amenities. There are 20 acres of outdoor space and over 70 pieces of public art on display.

The new contract, which starts on Tuesday 1 March, was won following a competitive tendering process, with Corps Security’s Social Enterprise status being seen as critical to its success.

Paul Lotter, managing director at Corps Security, commented: “We’re thrilled to be working at such a prestigious site as Canary Wharf and look forward to creating a long-term and successful partnership with the client.”

Range of services

The Corps of Commissionaires Management Limited was initially created to provide employment for ex-service personnel on their return from the Crimean War. Later renamed Corps Security, the Farringdon headquartered company has been providing dedicated security services for over 160 years.

Those services include security, electronic solutions, state-of-the-art monitoring and security reviews and consultancy, all of which is tailored to ensure the safety of property, assets and people at all times.

Corps Security is a Living Wage Recognised Service Provider, while Corps Security’s CEO Mike Bullock is a member of the Living Wage Foundation’s Recognised Service Provider Leadership Group. The organisation is also proud to be carbon neutral.

Corps Security supports several military charities, in particular Combat Stress – the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health – and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), itself the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.

Last year, Corps Security was awarded Gold status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme for the outstanding support shown by the company towards members of the Armed Forces community.
