Crime prevention toolkit introduced for UK’s retail sector

DELIVERED AT the request of the Home Office, a free crime prevention toolkit for retailers is the end result of a collaboration between the National Business Crime Centre and Police Crime Prevention Initiatives. The toolkit aims to provide useful information and guidance to support businesses in remaining safe from crime and helping to prevent crime impacting staff.

Securing businesses doesn’t have to be a costly endeavour and many of the crime prevention measures outlined in the booklet may already be in place. The information provided can be used to review current arrangements and identify any areas for improvement.

The Retailers Crime Prevention Toolkit can be downloaded online. Information included in the toolkit is keenly focused on physical security, cyber security, safety and security, crime prevention, reporting, offender management, training and employee/corporate support.

Superintendent Lisa Maslen (the National Business Crime Centre lead) said: “I’m delighted that the toolkit and the training course are now available. They will be an invaluable resource for retailers and policing colleagues in our bid to tackle retail crime together. Keeping those who work in retail and our communities safe by disrupting retail crime remains the National Business Crime Centre’s priority. The toolkit will go a long way towards helping to deliver on that objective.”

Home Office funding

Police Crime Prevention Initiatives was funded by the Home Office to provide crime prevention expertise, advice and assistance on the delivery of crime prevention interventions for all Safer Streets Fund projects being delivered by policing, Police and Crime Commissioners and local authorities.

The Police Crime Prevention Academy also offers a wide range of qualifications and Continuing Professional Development courses. They’re ideal for officers and staff at all levels and offer a perfect opportunity to upskill and refresh knowledge in the workplace.
