CLAIRE HUMBLE (CEO and co-founder of NuParadigm, the bespoke safety and security consultancy and training delivery provider) has been elected as the new chair of The Security Commonwealth, the umbrella organisation of independent membership bodies that provides a forum to consult and co-operate in the common interest and promote professionalism, Best Practice and information sharing to enhance UK security.
Members include the majority of the major security membership organisations in the UK, among them ASIS UK, The Security Institute, the International Professional Security Association, the Association of Security Consultants, the Institute of Private Investigators and the Cross-Sector Safety and Security Communications Initiative.
Further members include the National Security Inspectorate, the British Security Industry Association, the Royal United Services Institute and Resilience First.
Humble received the “unanimous support” of the Board and the overwhelming support of the membership. The Board has thanked the other candidates for their “professional and serious application” and also former chair Joe Connell MBE, who has now stepped down from the Board. Connell’s leadership and significant contributions have been “greatly appreciated”.
Humble began her career in UK policing in 1989, moving to a policing role in New Zealand in 2009 before becoming head of safety, security and facilities at Teesside University in late 2017.
As the leader and director of NuParadigm, Humble is directing an organisation that seeks to transform and modernise the way in which security education is delivered.
Humble represents TINYg on The Security Commonwealth’s Committee and is a member of the Advisory Board for IFPO UK as well as the Women’s Security Society.
Commitment and determination
On being elected to the chair’s role and succeeding Jayne King FSyI, Humble commented: “It is with a big dose of excitement and not a little trepidation that I now find myself stepping into this huge role. I’m delighted to be appointed as the new chair of The Security Commonwealth. I come to this role as a relative unknown to the wider security sector, but my passion, commitment and determination to make a difference is clear. As well as my 30-plus years’ experience within this sector, my strength also resides in my ability to bring people together, lead difficult conversations and champion change.”
Jayne King has congratulated Humble on her election and assured her of her full support as she takes on the challenges of leading The Security Commonwealth into the next stage of its evolution.
In addition to Humble and King, the other UK Security Commonwealth Board members are Darren Carter, Dave Cooke, Graham Bassett, Guy Mathias, Mike Hurst, Nicholas Reed and Oliver Curran.
