Business Continuity Institute achieves prestigious ISO 9001 certification

THE BUSINESS Continuity Institute (BCI) has successfully achieved ISO 9001 certification – the globally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems. This milestone marks an important step in the organisation’s commitment to excellence, transparency and continuous improvement in everything that it does.

ISO 9001 is an internationally acknowledged benchmark for organisations seeking to consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements through effective quality management practices. At its core, it promotes a process-driven approach focused on risk-based thinking, strong leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

For the BCI, achieving ISO 9001 confirms that its internal processes are robust, efficient and aligned with the highest standards. More importantly, it highlights the BCI’s ongoing dedication to delivering value and trust to its global community of members and partners.

David Thorpe, executive director at the BCI, said: “Across the last two years, the BCI’s Global Board has been engaged in improving overall governance of the organisation, including a revision of our Articles and Bylaws and culminating now in opening our member-facing operations to external audit and review. With this accreditation, we’ve achieved the high degree of transparency that we promised chapter leaders and members.”

What does this mean for members?

The BCI’s members are at the heart of everything the organisation does. ISO 9001 certification brings added assurance that:

*the BCI’s services and products meet rigorous quality standards, supporting professional development and success

*the BCI is committed to continual improvement and actively seeks feedback to better serve the needs of the business continuity and resilience community

*the BCI’s operations are efficient and accountable, ensuring consistency and responsiveness across all touchpoints

By aligning with ISO 9001, the organisation not only enhances operational excellence, but also strengthens its credibility and global standing as a leader in the business continuity and resilience arena.

Looking ahead

Certification is not a one-time achievement. Rather, it’s a continuous journey. Maintaining ISO 9001 means the BCI will regularly audit, review and refine its processes to remain aligned with Best Practice and member expectations.

The BCI sees this as an opportunity to not only uphold the trust placed in the organisations, but also to raise the bar for quality across the profession.

In closing a statement on the matter, the BCI observes: “The BCI remains committed to excellence: for today, tomorrow and the resilient future that the organisation aims to build together with the wider community.”
