Banham Academy expands into East Midlands with new apprenticeship centre

LONDON-BASED Banham Academy has announced a second apprenticeship centre. The new skills and training centre in Derby officially opened its doors on 30 January with a cohort of 15 apprentices enrolled and ready to start their learning programme for the Level 3 Fire, Emergency and Security Systems (FESS) Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

Situated within the Pride Park development, the Derby site offers excellent transportation links and is easily accessible for apprentices throughout the Midlands and Northern England.

The new training centre allows the Banham Academy to further its reach across the UK, offering accredited training to even more youngsters and continuing to provide the next generation of engineers with career pathways within the fire and security business sectors.

Kevin Faulkner, head of the Banham Academy, explained: “I’m thrilled to announce the Banham Academy’s expansion into Derby. This is a wonderful moment for us all at the organisation and a true testament to our continued success in delivering FESS, while in parallel shaping the next generation of engineers within our sector.”

Faulkner added: “Our decision to expand into the East Midlands region was taken due to demand. We wanted to make our training more accessible in the North to allow young people in these areas to benefit from the outstanding skills and training we’ve been offering apprentices in London. The Banham Academy has continued to raise the bar for excellence in the delivery of the FESS apprenticeship and we cannot wait to see the impact we’ll be making across the country through our new Derby training centre.”

To date, the Banham Academy has realised graduations for over 60 apprentices since first opening its doors in 2017. Over 50 employers in England entrust the Banham Academy to train their workforces.

In 2021, the Banham Academy set the benchmark for the sector by being the first training provider in the fire and security sector to have an apprenticeship scheme approved by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Apprentices in Derby will be able to access this apprenticeship.

Banham Academy graduates leave with invaluable credentials that not only set them up for rewarding careers, but also benefit their employers by having accredited IET engineering technicians within their workforces.
