ABLOY UK has supplied the CPA Group with its PROTEC2 CLIQ solution to streamline access control and protect assets at its headquarters in Shotts, Lanarkshire. Replacing traditional mechanical keys with this flexible electronic access control system has ensured physical security with enhanced key control, remote management and auditability.
The CPA Group is a provider of compressed air and controlled air solutions, operating in a highly regulated industry where both physical security and auditability are essential. The company needed a system that would streamline security processes, while in tandem maintaining robust protection for sensitive areas, particularly so for shipping containers and site safes used to store equipment on sites.
Given the nature of the business, which involves engineers frequently visiting various sites, having a system that ensured tight control over who accessed certain areas and when was critical.
Prior to working with Abloy UK, the CPA Group faced several key security challenges, which included the company’s over-reliance on traditional mechanical keys, which were difficult to manage and control. Engineers would often arrive on site without the correct key, which slowed down operational efficiencies. There was also no way in which to track access.
Additionally, there was a significant need for secure padlocks on steel containers at customers’ sites as these held the equipment needed to carry out maintenance. The CPA Group required a solution that could protect its assets, while offering better control over who had access to them.
The risk of lost or misplaced keys posed a significant security threat. The team wanted to eliminate this issue by adopting a more efficient system. It was also important that the solution could seamlessly integrate into existing infrastructures without the need for extensive modifications that would disrupt day-to-day activities.
Advanced access control
To overcome these barriers, Abloy UK provided its PROTEC2 CLIQ system, which (combined with an CLIQ External Wall PD) created advanced electronic access control with the reliability of physical security. The key point from this solution was the system’s ability to replace existing mechanical cylinders with new CLIQ cylinders. This didn’t require a great deal of joinery work and created minimal disruption during installation.
In turn, this made the system quick and easy to implement across the sites, enabling the CPA Group to upgrade its security without significant downtime.
PROTEC2 CLIQ can provide full audit trails for every key used, offering the CPA Group complete visibility of who has access to specific areas or assets. The ability to remotely delete lost or stolen keys and set time schedules for access further enhances the system’s flexibility and control.
The integration of PROTEC2 CLIQ was seamless, with the systems being rolled out smoothly without any complications. This demonstrated the solution’s scalability and its ability to adapt to the CPA Group’s growing needs.
Collaborative journey
Rory Grant, regional specification manager at Abloy UK, said: “With our PROTEC2 CLIQ system, we were able to deliver a seamless and scalable security solution that provided advanced access control, full auditability and flexibility. It has been a collaborative journey with the CPA Group to safeguard its assets, streamline operations and ensure peace of mind.”
Ian Chalmers, project manager at the CPA Group, responded: “The successful implementation of PROTEC2 CLIQ has increased not only our security, but also our efficiency. It has also provided us with a platform for future expansion, both within the UK and internationally.”
Chalmers concluded: “It’s clear that Abloy UK’s solution will remain an integral part of the company’s security strategy moving forward.”
