Skills for Security opens new flagship training centre in Hertfordshire

SKILLS FOR Security – the UK skills body for the professional security sector – is actively continuing its national expansion by opening a major new flagship training centre in Hertfordshire. Based in Watford, the centre will be used to deliver both apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training for the security and fire sectors.

The news represents the latest development in Skills for Security’s bold expansion programme to deliver high quality apprenticeships and training and follows on from the recent launch of another training centre in Glasgow.

The Watford operation, which boasts classrooms and workshop space, is kitted out with the latest products and technologies in a bid to afford apprentices the very best possible start to their working lives. The workshops are designed to create a realistic working environment for the ‘engineers of tomorrow’.

Officially opened on Monday 12 September, the Skills for Security training centre can be found at Axis 4, Rhodes Way, Watford, Hertfordshire WD24 4YW.

Significant milestone

David Scott, managing director at Skills for Security, said: “The opening of our latest training centre is a significant milestone for us. We are expanding nationwide to train apprentices from all areas of the country and meet the demand for developing the next generation of security and fire engineers.”

Scott continued: “It’s vital that we plug the skills shortage in our industry by investing in work-based training and development, which will help businesses to grow and the industry to keep pace with technological change. Increasing our training centres and the accessibility to training is a huge positive.”

Skills for Security’s managing director is keen to point out that the organisation has received “fantastic support” from partner organisations, among them CSL, Hikvision, Texecom, TDSi and Apollo Fire Detectors. “All of them have donated large volumes of product for the new training centre in order to support learners in their journeys,” enthused Scott.

Covering the regions

In conclusion, Scott noted: “This latest move enhances our coverage of the UK to reduce travel for our installer companies and their students. With the training centres in Glasgow, Warrington, Birmingham and now Watford all in operation, we are catering for learners on a ‘by population’ basis and have plans to become more regional as we scale.”
