Paul Phillips appointed CEO at Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board

THE SECURITY Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) has announced the appointment of Paul Phillips as its new CEO. Phillips brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role having demonstrated an exceptional track record during his tenure with the Whitley Bay-based certification body.

Phillips joined the SSAIB back in 2017 in the role of compliance manager, duly showcasing his dedication and proficiency within the organisation. His steadfast commitment to excellence and myriad significant contributions led to his appointment as general manager in 2022, whereupon he assumed responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the SSAIB.

Phillips now takes on the CEO role following the retirement of the organisation’s previous chief executive, namely Alex Carmichael, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fire and Security Matters Awards 2023.

Having begun his career as an electronics engineer, Phillips accrued invaluable industry experience while working with prominent security equipment manufacturers from 1994 until his move to the British Security Industry Association in 2009.

Notably, Phillips’ academic pursuits include the attainment of an MSc in Security and Risk Management in 2006, in turn demonstrating his deep-rooted knowledge and understanding of the security landscape.

Since 2002, Phillips’ involvement in the development of standards for electronic security systems within the UK and Europe underscores a deep-rooted commitment to advancing industry benchmarks and ensuring adherence to best practices.

Expertise and leadership

Commenting on the appointment, SSAIB chair Geoff Tate stated: “We are delighted to appoint Paul as the new CEO of the SSAIB. The exceptional expertise, leadership skills and dedication that he has exhibited throughout his tenure make him the ideal candidate for this significant position. Paul’s appointment provides a solid foundation upon which to build the future growth and success of the SSAIB.”

Under Phillips’ capable guidance, SSAIB-certified organisations within the security and fire industries can be assured of continued excellence and support from the organisation’s dedicated staff.

Phillips’ appointment represents a significant milestone for the SSAIB, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and professionalism within the security and fire industries.

The SSAIB, of course, is a UKAS accredited certification body for organisations providing security and safety-related services (including electronic security systems, guarding services, fire protection and fire risk assessments) across the UK and Ireland.

With a focus on maintaining high standards and promoting Best Practice, the SSAIB also provides certification for quality, environmental and Health and Safety management systems.

Over 2,100 companies are currently registered with the SSAIB.
