INSPIRATIONAL LEADER Julie Barker has been appointed to the role chief operating officer for the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO). AUCSO is the leading organisation for security professionals working in higher and further education around the world.
As the former director of hospitality and accommodation services at the University of Brighton for over 25 years, lead sustainability non-executive director for CUBO and chair of The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) for six years, Barker is a two-time winner of the highly coveted Catey Awards.
Barker also featured prominently within the Public Sector Top 20 ‘Most Influential’ listings from 2011 through to 2016 and is a highly respected consultant to the sector.
Not only does Barker have a wide breadth of experience at Boardroom and the chair level of membership organisations, but her expertise has also been underpinned by an extensive knowledge across a range of areas within the facilities management and hospitality sectors.
Barker was instrumental in re-launching TUCO, conceptualising and mobilising a raft of new services designed to support member value, learning and training for this respected member association.
Speaking of her new appointment, Barker informed Security Matters: “I’m delighted to be joining AUCSO at what is a pivotal time in the organisation’s evolution and development when security and safeguarding has never been so important when it comes to ensuring the safety and well-being of campus communities, supporting students during their time with universities whether on site or through resi-life.”
Barker added: “AUCSO enjoys a great reputation among its members across the globe, and I’m now looking forward to working with the team to support the highest standards of security and safeguarding in day-to-day operations, raising the profile of the outstanding work undertaken by our members and encouraging youth and bringing in new talent to the sector.”
Barker was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Public Sector Awards in 2018.
