Government Property Agency awards duo of five-year contracts to G4S

G4S SECURE Solutions UK has won two five-year contracts from the Government Property Agency to provide integrated security and technology services to a “significant number” of departmental buildings located across London and the north of the country.

G4S Secure Solutions UK will deliver services across a minimum of 18 London sites and 21 buildings in the northern region, including four in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland. There’s a possibility the number of sites will increase in line with the Government Property Agency’s ‘Places for Growth’ programme.

The contracts will start on 1 October 2023.

Core security services across all of the sites involved will include duties such as surveillance and alarm monitoring, visitor management (encompassing access control, emergency response, key holding patrol teams and car park management), voice announcement system operation and, in some, flag flying duties.

The integration of security and technology will witness data and analytics being used to ensure security officers are deployed to higher risk locations and record security incidents. Incident reports will also be digitally recorded and shared promptly with the customer.

Decades of experience

Eddie Hirst, business development director for major projects at G4S Secure Solutions UK, explained: “We have built up decades of integrated security solutions experience, and notably so in terms of delivering requirements for customers covering recognisable and sensitive sites all across the country.”

Hirst continued: “We’re really excited to be able to play our part in supporting the Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ and ‘Places for Growth’ agendas by retaining and creating extra jobs in locations around the north of the UK.”

All of the nearly 300 members of staff who are employed by the incumbent contract holders will be offered the opportunity to TUPE across to G4S Secure Solutions UK. As is the case for current staff members, all new staff will be required to be security check cleared.

Those who do TUPE to G4S Secure Solutions UK will benefit from access to professional development opportunities during their working hours, including webinars, training courses and knowledge-sharing sessions for industry leaders delivered through the G4S Academy.

Outdated model

Eddie Hirst concluded: “Having security officers just standing at building entrances is an outdated model. We know that offering professional development opportunities during work time helps to engage officers and advances their careers. We are absolutely committed to investment in this key area of security.”
