ORGANISER NINETEEN Group has reported that The Security Event 2024, which ran from 30 April to 2 May at the NEC in Birmingham, realised record-breaking numbers, in turn building upon its position as the UKs ‘biggest, best and favourite’ security show and now universally recognised as Europe’s leading event for the commercial, enterprise and domestic security markets.
This year, The Security Event attracted an unprecedented 14,327 visitors. That equates to a 28% year-on-year growth, with the show featuring 336 world-leading security manufacturers, suppliers and service providers showcasing the latest technologies, product launches and innovative solutions.
Spanning a hugely impressive floor area of 15,000 m2, The Security Event provided a unique platform for attendees to experience exclusive product releases, live demonstrations and workshops. The show also facilitated invaluable networking opportunities, with prominent industry figures and specialists enhancing the professional development of all attendees.
The Security Event 2024 played host to a significant increase in international visitors, with representatives present from no fewer than 64 countries. This global engagement underscores The Security Event’s expanding influence and pivotal role in the global security sector.
Once again, Security Matters proudly served as the Lead Media Partner for The Security Event.
Key highlights
Key highlights included the debut of the Loss Prevention Certification Board’s Live Testing Lab, which attracted a ‘standing room only’ audience. Attendees witnessed demonstrations of the effectiveness of various physical security products, including padlocks, key safes, fencing, shutters and turnstiles when subjected to physical attacks.
The inaugural Safety and Security Entrepreneurs Awards (SSEAs) celebrated the achievements of entrepreneurs in both start-ups and established businesses within the security and safety sectors. Supported by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), The Banks Foundation and Skills for Security, the SSEAs highlighted innovative contributions to the industry.
The debut of WorldSkills UK included an immersive and interactive zone dedicated to nurturing future security engineers. The national qualifiers took place, with three heats over three days, in turn raising the bar for apprentice excellence in the security domain.
Additionally, the return of The Forum, run in partnership with the Access Control Executive Brief, emphasised the critical importance of access control in enhancing physical security for organisations.
Remarkable growth
Tristan Norman, event director at Nineteen Group, informed Security Matters: “The Security Event has grown remarkably, becoming the industry’s favourite ‘go-to’ event in just five years of operation. It’s fantastic to see the show thrive at the NEC in Birmingham, which is recognised by many as the ‘home’ of UK security. We thank the exhibitors, visitors and partners for their support.”
The industry’s robust support for The Security Event was once again very evident, with backing from key organisations including the Association of Security Consultants, ASIS UK, the BSIA, the Electrical Contractors Association/Fire and Security Association, the International Professional Security Association, the Master Locksmiths Association, the National Association for Healthcare Security, the National Security Inspectorate, Skills for Security, the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board, The Security Institute and Secured by Design.
The launch of Safety and Security Asia, a new addition to Nineteen Group’s Safety and Security Series set to take place on 11-13 November 2025 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore, promises to further extend The Security Event’s reach and impact on the global stage.
Looking ahead, The Security Event will return to the NEC from 8-10 April 2025 and run in Hall 5, the largest hall at the venue, increasing its footprint by 30% to accommodate the growing demand from exhibitors and visitors alike.
