Allan Gregory appointed to director’s role at Carlisle Support Services

ALLAN GREGORY has been appointed in the role of director of transport security and policing at Carlisle Support Services. After recently retiring from his role as assistant chief constable at the British Transport Police (BTP), Gregory joins the business to provide subject matter expertise that will further support the client base within the rail and transport sectors.

Having spent 32 years within the BTP, Gregory brings a wealth of expertise to the role after being responsible for operational performance across England, Scotland and Wales. He also oversaw volume crime investigation, community and stakeholder engagement, use of force, Stop and Search, custody operations, the Special Constabulary and neighbourhood policing.

In his most recent role, Gregory served as the senior responsible owner of the BTP’s Integrated Security and Policing Project. As assistant chief constable he fulfilled on-call responsibilities, in turn leading Gregory to be the Silver Commander on the evening of the Manchester Arena terror attack, following which he subsequently appeared as a witness at the Manchester Arena Inquiry.

Collaborative partnerships

Similarly, Gregory was a qualified Gold (strategic) Public Order Commander and a Multi-Agency Gold (strategic) Incident Commander. He has extensive experience in collaborative partnerships with the UK rail industry and the management of critical incidents.

In his new role at Carlisle Support Services, Gregory will work closely with the company’s director of rail strategy and senior security and policing advisor to deliver a national transport security and policing solution. As a result, Gregory will serve as the primary liaison with key stakeholders such as the Department for Transport, the Home Office and the Security Industry Authority.

Gregory boasts a strong track record of collaboration between policing and security resources in relation to the UK’s rail network. Indeed, this experience will be paramount to tailoring Carlisle Support Service’s approach towards policing within the transport sector.

Different perspective

On his appointment, Gregory stated: “I’m delighted to be joining the Carlisle Support Services family. I’m eager to learn. It will be really interesting to see the UK’s rail network from a different perspective. I want to draw on my experience in policing in order to support Carlisle Support Service’s focus on the sector. I’m looking forward to meeting the operational teams, our customers and other key partners.”

Carlisle Support Service’s CEO Paul Evans responded: “We are really excited to welcome Allan to the Carlisle Support Services family. His wealth of expertise will bring invaluable benefits to our clients and further solidify our position as a market leader of people-based support services within the UK’s extensive rail and transport networks.”
