FOLLOWING ON from the recommendations made by the organisation’s current Board members, three new Board directors have been confirmed at the recent Committee Meeting held by The Security Commonwealth.
The new Board directors are Darren Carter CPP MSyI F.ISRM, Nicholas Reed FSyI F.ISRM S.IIRSM SRMP-C CBCI TechIOSH and Claire Humble MlntlSy MSyl CPOI. In recent months, both David Ward CSyP FSyI and Houdah Al-Hakim have chosen to step down from their own Board roles.
Speaking about her appointment, Claire Humble asserted that she had wanted to join Board of The Security Commonwealth to challenge the norms, positively influence change and champion new ways of working on behalf of the security sector and, indeed, the wider community.
Nicholas Reed, who will now be assisting Dave Cooke CPP with Secretariat duties for The Security Commonwealth, explained: “I’m privileged and honoured to have been both accepted on to the Board of the UK Security Commonwealth and also to take up a role supporting the Secretariat of the organisation.”
Reed continued: “My intention is to support the organisation in fulfilling its mandate as the uniting umbrella body which brings together the common interests of the numerous associations in the UK security sector and acts as a conduit for inter-organisational communication and co-ordination in promoting the member body interests, as well as propagating supportive initiatives. Working together, we can achieve so much more.”
Darren Carter CPP, who has been involved with The Security Commonwealth since it was formed back in 2015, commented: “It’s a privilege to have recently joined the Board and I do so with the full intent of helping to drive the ambitions of all those who readily commit their time and energy to the organisation. Bringing together the many organisations who lead our industry under a unified working group is by no means any easy task. That said, strength is found with common understanding and shared values, I’m grateful for the opportunity and very much looking forward to making a positive contribution to the team.”
Jayne King FSyI, chair of The Security Commonwealth, has welcomed Darren, Nicholas and Claire to the Board and knows that their drive and enthusiasm will help guide The Security Commonwealth in the months and years ahead.
The trio join King and existing Board members Joe Connell MBE, Guy Mathias, Graham Bassett, Dave Cooke, Oliver Curran and Mike Hurst.

Continuous improvement
Jayne King FySI noted: “In 2021, The Security Commonwealth’s Committee launched the David Clark Award in recognition of David’s standing within, and his voluntary contribution across the UK’s security business sector. The award is designed to build upon David’s efforts, both as an outstanding chair of The Security Commonwealth and, more widely, to encourage continuous improvement within the UK security sector.”
Mike Hurst CPP CPOI, regional director for IFPO Europe, concluded: “We are delighted that IFPO UK and Ireland will be hosting this year’s David Clark Award Ceremony. On a personal note, having worked with David on the Boards of both ASIS UK and The Security Commonwealth, I’m excited that we have the chance to honour him. I would encourage everyone to nominate both individuals and organisations for these prestigious honours.”
