Security Matters Podcast – Episode 23 now live to view

THE TWENTY third edition of the Security Matters Podcast for practising professionals in the security business sector is now live to view. Each episode of the Security Matters Podcast features a round-up and analysis of the biggest news stories published on the magazine’s website in addition to detailed discussions with selected professionals from the security business sector.

Episode 23 of the Security Matters Podcast features an exclusive exit interview with Rick Mounfield CSyP FSyI, who looks back on five years in the role of CEO at The Security Institute. Security Matters’ Editor Brian Sims Hon FSyI also hears from Rob Williams (technical and training manager at Gate Safe, the charity that’s wholly committed to promoting an improved understanding of the legislation and standards pertaining to automated gates).

A Chartered Security Professional, Rick Mounfield focuses his attentions on many key areas during his chat with Brian, among them the ongoing push for Chartered status for the Institute, the likely roadmap for the organisation and also where the security industry needs to be in terms of mandated Continuing Professional Development.

Further, Rick outlines his views on the core skills he believes will be necessary when it comes to the security manager of tomorrow.

Importantly, Rick also details the greatest achievements realised by the organisation and, indeed, himself during his time as CEO of the Institute and then looks ahead to his new role as a director with the Optimal Risk Group.

Connected campaign

As stated, our second guest on this edition of the Security Matters Podcast is Rob Williams, technical and training manager at Gate Safe).

Rob joined the team back in 2018. Prior to that, he spent 15 years in the gate automation sector. His last role as an automation workshop supervisor required him to train engineers on automated gate products, oversee new product evolution for the company and also manage a dedicated technical support line.

Importantly, Rob brings extensive practical knowledge of the automated gate industry to GateSafe, which then enables him to identify with the issues faced by installers in the field.

He spends much of his time delivering the IOSH-approved ‘Gate Safe Aware’ training and undertaking independent risk assessments and site surveys.

In conversation with Brian, Rob examines the process of traditional fire and security system installers taking on automated gate-based work and also outlines some of the pitfalls that can be encountered.
