PATERNOSTER SQUARE has been presented with the prestigious Secured Environments award. The estate is an iconic urban development in the heart of the City of London, surrounded by landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Stock Exchange. It houses a mix of office space and retail outlets with busy public thoroughfares through the square and surrounding areas.
Recognising the challenges posed for security, as well as the benefits of adopting a framework for good security management, Paternoster Square (itself a collaboration between Savills and CIS Security) set out to gain the Secured Environments award to ensure an effective security operation is in place.
To achieve the Secured Environments award, the development underwent a thorough audit of all security processes and procedures, as well as consultation with members of staff to verify that they were following six key principles designed to maximise the security of all visitors and users of the area.
Key principles
The six key principles of the Secured Environments accreditation are the commitment by an organisation and its leadership to create a secure environment, an understanding of the security risks that it faces, the development of an effective response to reduce the risks posed to the organisation, a management plan to achieve its aims and objectives, the effective implementation of the security and crime prevention measures and the monitoring and evaluation of the security and crime prevention measures.
The award was presented by Commander Khan from the City of London Police.
Teena Gill, operations director for Paternoster Square, explained: “Paternoster Square is delighted to have been awarded the Secured Environments accreditation. The process of obtaining this award has been managed extremely professionally. The award showcases that we take the safety of our team members, occupiers and visitors very seriously indeed.”
Secured Environments: background detail
Secured Environments is a police certification scheme. It was established back in 2007 and provides a framework for managing and meeting the challenges faced, duly enabling organisations to refine their approach and demonstrate that it’s effective. The overriding aim is to help organisations to think about their risks and how to make the best use of measures they already have in place.
Secured Environments was developed through the partnership forged between Police Crime Prevention Initiatives and Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International.
