National Business Crime Centre launches Safer Business Action Week

FOLLOWING ON from the first successful national week of action organised by the National Business Crime Centre in 2022, a newly-branded Safer Business Action Week is due to take place in October with the police service and partners across the country joining forces to tackle business crime in their local communities.

The Safer Business Action Week will begin on 16 October and involve Business Crime Reduction Partnerships, Business Improvement Districts and the private security industry working with local police forces to deliver a focused operation involving joint patrols, the targeted intervention of offenders and a range of crime prevention activity including raising awareness of local crime issues with members of the general public.

Superintendent Patrick Holdaway, lead for the National Business Crime Centre, said: “The week of action is co-ordinated nationally, but is very much focused on local crime and anti-social behaviour issues impacting retail and other businesses in the community. It is as much about engaging with businesses and the public as it is about identifying and catching prolific offenders.”

Holdaway added: “Last year’s week of action realised some fantastic results in targeting those who cause the most harm to businesses and also in building ongoing relationships between business, partner organisations and the police.”

Bespoke branding has been created for police forces and partners to use in order to promote their involvement in the week of action, while the National Business Crime Centre will be supporting with planning and marketing all of the various activities taking place.

Edward Woodall, ShopKind campaign co-ordinator, noted: “We encourage all businesses to actively support the national week of action and share messages with their customers and colleagues about ShopKind.”

The National Business Crime Centre’s social media channels on LinkedIn and Twitter will carry updates on activities taking place throughout the week.
