Mitie Security scoops trio of prestigious Retail Fraud Awards

MITIE SECURITY has won three Retail Fraud Awards, securing victories in the ‘Most Innovative Retail Risk Management Solutions’, ‘Best Collaborative Retail Risk Management Solution’ and ‘Retail Risk Management Rising Star of the Year’ categories for 2021.

These awards duly recognise Mitie’s diligent work throughout the year on promoting collaboration in the security sector in addition to its industry-leading use of technology to help keep people, businesses and local communities safe.

Organised by Retail Risk, the Retail Fraud Awards are designed to recognise companies that have developed innovative security products and initiatives, as well as security teams and individuals who have demonstrably maintained the best performance in the industry.

Each year, the winners of these prestigious awards are chosen by a panel of independent Judges comprising security experts from renowned companies such as Nike, Richemont International, Primark and the Co-op.

Detail of the awards

Mitie Security’s wins in the ‘Most Innovative Retail Risk Management Solutions’ and ‘Best Collaborative Retail Risk Management Solution’ categories are for the company’s initiatives around sharing information on criminal behaviour among its national retail customers, with the whole process underpinned by its own technology solutions.

Mitie has been using detailed and up-to-date information to support security teams on the ground and also assist local police forces with the gathering of evidence they need to keep criminals off the streets.

Meanwhile, the ‘Retail Risk Management Rising Star of the Year Award’ was given to James Bradley, Mitie Security’s senior crime and intelligence analyst, for his work on helping to set up and establish a new intelligence team for one of the company’s national retail customers. Having delivered the project earlier this year, Bradley now leads two crime intelligence teams, with its members directly supporting this customer.

Highly commended

In addition to these wins, three Mitie Security teams were highly commended in the ‘Retail Risk Management Best Newcomer Award’, the ‘F.A.C.E Award Dedicated to Front Line Ambassadors of Customer Experience’ and the ‘In-Store Risk Management Team of the Year’ categories.

In the same week Emma Shaw MBA CSyP FSyI, managing director of Esoteric (which, as reported by Security Matters, was recently acquired by Mitie) was awarded the annual Mervyn Day Award by ASIS International’s UK Chapter for her contribution to the security industry. Indeed, this is the first award that Esoteric, itself a leading provider of specialist counter espionage services, has won since it was acquired by Mitie last month.

Technology and collaboration

Jason Towse, managing director of business services at Mitie, commented: “Whether it’s alerts that provide security teams on the ground with updates on events taking place nearby, or intelligence sharing programmes, we believe that technology and sector-wide collaboration are the future of the security industry. We’re extremely proud to see our work and colleagues recognised by Retail Risk through these awards and commendations.”

Towse added: “We’re fully committed to continuing to drive innovation and new ways of working in order to keep our customers and local communities safe.”

Founded in 1987, Mitie offers a range of services to central Government and the defence sector covering communities (healthcare, education and local authorities), technical services (engineering and real estate) and business services (encompassing security).
