MITIE HAS won a new £3 million contract with Bristol Airport, thereby extending its relationship with the client for a further three years. The contract is to provide baggage screening services and there’s an option built-in to extend the contract for an additional two years. Mitie, which has provided services to the airport for over two decades now, was awarded the contract following a successful competitive retender process.
Mitie will continue to deliver behind-the-scenes security services by monitoring thousands of pieces of check-in luggage for around nine million passengers who fly from the airport each year. The screening process will allow Mitie’s personnel to ensure that prohibited items, such as flammable liquids, are not loaded on to aircraft, in turn ensuring the safety of passengers and employees.
Moving forward, Mitie will work closely with the airport’s management team to identify opportunities for innovation and efficiencies that will further enhance the services currently provided. For example, Mitie is working with the Bristol Airport team to look at ways in which to build on the screening services at the airport by using technology, people and data to develop a new and “industry-leading” method of baggage screening.
Aviation expertise
This contract renewal builds on Mitie’s aviation expertise, with a range of different contracts also being held by the business at Heathrow, Birmingham, London City, London Stansted and Belfast City Airports, reinforcing Mitie’s experience in the sector.
Jason Towse, managing director of business services at Mitie, said: “Having provided services to Bristol Airport for over 20 years, we’re delighted to be continuing our strong relationship with this new contract as we deliver professional screening services. Using our expertise in the aviation industry, we look forward to protecting millions more passengers passing through the busiest airport in the South West in the years to come.”
Long-standing relationship
Graeme Gamble, chief operating officer at Bristol Airport, added: “We’re delighted that Mitie has been successful in renewing its baggage screening contract. This continues a long-standing relationship for Mitie as a key business partner of the airport. The award of this new contract follows a competitive tender process and we’re now looking forward to working with Mitie over the next three years to provide excellent service to deliver professional screening services for our customers.”
Gamle concluded: “Mitie is a valued business partner and this new contract will ensure the ongoing high levels of baggage screening will continue in the years ahead.”
