DURING A recent Carbon Footprint Assessment, security solutions provider Magenta Security has been certified as achieving Carbon Zero status, without the need to offset.
Magenta Security set itself a goal to be Carbon Zero, without offsetting, by 2025. However, this month’s carbon audit has shown that improvements made to working practices have realised the achievement of the company’s goal three years ahead of schedule.
The Carbon Footprint Assessment demonstrates that Magenta Security is not only achieving its Scope 1 emission targets (on fuel and company vehicles), but also its Scope 2 targets (focusing on purchased electricity and heat).
The business is already ahead of its 2025 and 2030 goals in terms of measurement and reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2, leaving just its Scope 3 targets to be achieved. Scope 3 covers external suppliers, purchased goods and services and employee commuting, etc.
Magenta Security has already begun the journey to achieve Scope 3, which the company is committed to achieving by 2025.
Best Practice in CSR
Magenta Security has demonstrated Best Practice in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with a strong focus on green issues since the business was first established more than 25 years ago. The latest certification, which measured Magenta Security’s carbon footprint over the course of a year (from June 2021 to May 2022), clearly demonstrates that the company actually goes beyond being carbon neutral.
Through a school age programme, designed to educate children on the benefits of planting trees, a further 5 tonnes of carbon are being offset. Such offsetting measures are in addition to Magenta Security’s ongoing (and environmentally positive) practices, which have ultimately led to its Carbon Zero (without offsetting) status. The latter include a wealth of enhancements to its offices – such as the use of solar power, a strong adherence to the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ mantra and, more recently, a switch from hybrid to 100% electric vehicles (which are powered from the solar panels at head office).
Pointing to the future
“This is great news for the whole Magenta Security team and a clear demonstration of all the hard work we’ve put in over many years, during which time we have pointed the security industry towards a more environmentally friendly future,” enthused Abbey Petkar, managing director at Magenta Security.
He continued: “Since I first set up the company more than 25 years ago, I have placed CSR at the heart of everything we do, whether that’s ensuring the best possible working conditions, charitable work conducted around the world or looking after the planet. I’ve always wanted our business to give back wherever possible. The fact that we are Carbon Zero, without offsetting, is something I’m incredibly proud of and I want to recognise the hard work of the team around me in achieving this goal so far ahead of our original timeline.”
