IPSA launches “revolutionary app” designed to “empower security’s front line”

THE INTERNATIONAL Professional Security Association (IPSA) has launched a free mobile application designed to give a voice to front line security personnel. The development of this app is a direct result of the new and radical approach adopted by IPSA that promises free executive membership for front line security workers, among them security officers and security and fire systems-focused personnel.

The app provides a “unique platform” for sharing and recording anonymised data on the mental well-being of front line staff, while also capturing figures and trends relating to unreported incidents, employer support, diversity and disability, etc. For the very first time, this “revolutionary tool” will enable an accurate picture of incidents affecting front line security officers and the wider community to be formed, duly encompassing the impact on security businesses.

“This will be first-hand anonymised data which will allow us to be vocal within the industry and to Government,” asserted IPSA chair Simon Pears CSyP MSyI FIPSA. “We hope that, in turn, companies will want to join us in helping to improve security and meet the needs of front line staff, engendering greater recognition for the professionalism of security teams.”

Information and guidance

The app offers information and guidance, welfare advice, training modules and some IPSA-specific offers alongside news feeds from around the world. Front line workers will easily be able to register and access IPSA membership by signing up for the free app. They will not only receive all of the executive member benefits by doing so, but also be entitled to certification as well as the right to include the IPSA post-nominal after their name.

“This vision is inspired by the hard work and commitment that front line services offer members of the public to help keep them safe and secure,” continued Pears. “Free membership of IPSA is our ‘Thank You’ to them. We want to become the voice of security’s front line workers.”

While for the moment the new app has only been launched in the UK, it will quickly be rolled out to other countries, with an official launch in the USA being the next scheduled release.

‘IPSA Founders’

Months of effort expended to establish the new IPSA has been ably supported by the contributions made by some industry-leading companies. They have become ‘IPSA Founders’ and volunteered their assistance and funding to help empower the front line members of the ‘new IPSA’.

Una Riley, CEO of IPSA, remarked: “The IPSA Founders supported a vision that’s now a reality. They’ve helped IPSA to offer free membership for all people working on the front line within the world of security. IPSA will always remember the special contribution that the Founders have made to help the front line be recognised and valued for the important work they do.”

Those ‘IPSA Founders’ include Hikvision, the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board, the Association of University Chief Security Officers, the Fire and Security Association, Securigroup, Darwin Clayton, Chubb, Oprema, Profile Security Services, Shield Security Services, Sodexo, SGC Security Services, Panasonic and Team Software.
