CORPS SECURITY has signed a two-year contract agreement with Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity. The contract, which commences on 30 November, will see the company provide night concierge security and security guarding services for seven locations across London.
While there’s a strong emphasis on Front of House security and safeguarding, the Corps Security team will do more than keep people and properties safe and secure. The 14 officers due to transfer from the incumbent service provider through the established TUPE Regulations will be the ‘friendly face’ of the charity, offering a warm welcome to those who arrive at the night shelters.
Following on from enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks, each security officer will receive the latest safeguarding-focused training and instruction that’s compliant with the updated regulations.
Community protection
Centrepoint’s stated mission is to assist young people through support for their mental and physical health, life skills and accessing education and employment. In essence, Centrepoint’s work is all about empowering vulnerable young people.
Indeed, the charity’s ethos feeds into Corps Security’s own mission, which is aimed squarely at protecting the communities it serves.
Both parties are passionate advocates for the Living Wage Foundation. As such, the London Living Wage will be implemented for the contract at the new rate announced by the Government on 24 October.
These shared values underpinned Centrepoint’s decision to award the security contract to the social enterprise as it boasts a 160-year history of delivering social value. Another reason for the contract award is Corps Security’s commitment to driving stigma change when it comes to mental health in the security sector.
Demonstrating resilience
“We feel privileged to be working with Centrepoint,” enthused Mike Bullock, CEO at Corps Security. “This is an exciting win for us because we love working with charities. This particular contract covers a large area of London and will allow us to demonstrate our resilience.”
Bullock continued: “As a security solutions partner focussed on delivering not just expertise, but also social value, we will do whatever we can to give back to this vulnerable community. We are already discussing ways in which we can collaborate outside of the contract, such as supporting the charity with job fairs and mentoring. For us, this contract goes beyond safeguarding and security excellence. It’s about protecting and improving lives.”
Ed Tytherleigh, director of services for Centrepoint, responded: “We awarded the contract to Corps Security because the business shares our own core values and wants to improve the lives of vulnerable people. Corps Security’s personal touch during the tender process was fantastic. The company was responsive, attentive and proactive throughout. We’re looking forward to this next chapter and to working with a ‘people first’ security expert.”
