Bringing connectivity to your door

A recent innovation in residential access control has been the introduction of connected door entry systems, allowing users to remotely control and manage access to their homes. CDVI explains more.

EDIT

While seemingly a modern trend, 'Smart Homes' have been around since 1975. The ability to control everything remotely from smartphones has just increased in recent years, as the connectivity technologies increased within the Internet of Things (IoT). This interconnected network allows smart devices (phones, tablets, meters and so on) to communicate consistently over the Internet and is slowly but surely changing the way we live and work.

Market demand grows as users want to be able to control and achieve more and more daily tasks and actions from their smart devices. Companies and manufacturers in all industries have had to adapt their product offer to meet these new requirements and the access control market is no exception.

From switching on the lights to opening doors and gates, users are looking for the ability to control and access everything remotely but with ease and without the extra cost that Smart Homes devices usually carry.

The extensive amount of solutions available in the market now makes it complicated to pick a system that offers users the features they are really looking for, while being reliable, convenient and cost-effective.

Basic Video Door Entry systems are usually made up of a door station, a monitor and a power supply. The monitor is fitted internally and allows users to control their door station, which is an outside interface with visitors. Those systems can be expanded to multiple monitors and door stations depending on the manufacturers’ options.

A Smart Video Door Entry System will offer similar features while adding the ability to remotely control access and manage the system from a smart device. Calls will be forwarded from the monitor to users’ smartphones, giving them an anytime status of the system. Users will be able to remotely release locks, allowing them to unlock doors and gates. The remote mobile connection also gives users the ability to view their door station camera and monitor their door.

With the amount of offers on the market, it is important to consider different options and choose a door entry system that will fit users’ needs while giving flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

To maximise their investment, look for a Video Door Entry System that is connected while also giving you the option to be used as standard, with features controlled from the inside monitor. The system should give end users the ability to remotely control their doors and gates while giving management options for the entire system.

If you have an existing system, make sure it can easily be upgraded to a smart home. Manufacturers such as CDVI offer an easy upgrade on their 2easy system: simply update one internal monitor in the entire system to access all remote connectivity features.
