ATG ACCESS has successfully completed the latest phase of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) bollard installations as part of physical security upgrades for major North West railway stations Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly.
As part of the project at Manchester Piccadilly, ATG Access was commissioned to design, manufacture, supply and install a bespoke and iconic sculpture, which both celebrates Manchester and forms part of the protected line outside the station.
ATG Access’ design draws upon the rich depth of industrial engineering of the city, its buildings and long-standing railway heritage. It’s a design brought to life by harnessing ATG’s expertise and skills to create and deliver such an important statement piece, helping to support and realise the vision and strategy of Network Rail. The industrial steel ‘MCR’ letters sculpture sits proudly upon a granite clad base illuminated by LED lighting.
Hard work and collaboration
Richard Ellis (managing director of ATG Access) said: “The statue represents the culmination of many months of hard work and collaboration. We are immensely proud and honoured to have played our part in the design, fabrication and installation process, supported by our supply chain to protect what matters.”
Rebecca Rathore, Network Rail’s North West route strategy director, stated: “I’m so pleased to see the MCR sculpture installed outside Manchester Piccadilly Station. We’re proud to be a part of this city, and we take our responsibility to keep people safe extremely seriously.”
Rathore added: “The sculpture is part of a wider project to keep passengers safer at our stations across the North West. We’re always working to improve our station security, and the sculpture is part of a new and comprehensive line-of defence to help people feel more secure when they’re out and about.”
Risk profiles
Network Rail employed the services of an external security consultancy to produce updated risk profiles for Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street.
