ASSIST SECURITY Group, itself one of the UK’s leading independent security providers, has been appointed to deliver physical security services at Kingston Hospital, which is part of the Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust. Indeed, the news marks the first change of security provider for the NHS Foundation Trust in nearly three decades.
The contract, which went live in April, centres on Assist Security Group (a Security Industry Authority Approved Contractor for security guarding, door supervision, surveillance camera monitoring and key holding services) deploying a dedicated team of security officers across the hospital site, covering critical areas including the Emergency Department, maternity wards and the Control Room on a 24-7 basis.
Central to Assist Security Group’s involvement at Kingston Hospital will be the roll-out of the NHS Security Development Programme. This is an initiative already delivering measurable results across the company’s other NHS contracts in London. It develops a collaborative, one-team culture between security officers and clinical staff, incorporating the award-winning ‘One Person, One Voice’ methodology. This ensures that, in sensitive patient interactions, only one member of staff communicates at a time, thereby reducing confusion.
Troy Hewitt, CEO of Assist Security Group, said: “Our task is to make a real difference: to the staff who work there every day, to the patients in their care and to everyone who walks through the doors. We’ve brought new practices and training to Croydon, Epsom and St Helier NHS. We’ll do so for this contract as well, working closely with clinical and management teams.”
Established presence
The Kingston Hospital appointment further extends Assist Security Group’s established NHS presence across the capital, adding to existing contracts with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Paul Grzegorzek, NHS account director at the Assist Security Group, added: “Our security officers working in NHS environments are trained above and beyond industry standards. They’re ready to respond to incidents, but more than that, to prevent them, build trust with clinical teams and be a positive presence on the premises. That’s the culture we bring from Day One.”
Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust was established in 2024 to bring health and care services closer together for local people. The organisation works with GPs, councils and community organisations to provide joined-up services, reducing the need for hospital stays and making support easier to access close to home.
From the NHS App to new online tools, Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust affords people more choice and control over how they manage their health, while freeing-up staff to spend more time on the caring function.
