Vicki Evans appointed to key role at Counter Terrorism Policing

ASSISTANT CHIEF Constable Vicki Evans of the Cambridgeshire Constabulary has been appointed as the new senior national co-ordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing. Evans is the permanent successor to deputy assistant commissioner Tim Jacques, who has retired from policing after 37 years, the last six of which saw him serve as deputy senior national co-ordinator and senior national co-ordinator.

Evans joined Cambridgeshire Constabulary in May 2020 and, prior to her appointment, held the role of temporary assistant chief constable at Dyfed-Powys Police. She has gained over 20 years of policing experience by virtue of working in a variety of roles such as response policing, crime investigation, serious and organised crime and covert policing.

Across the last 12 months, Evans has been the National Police Chief Council’s lead on the implementation of the Volume Two recommendations of the Manchester Arena Inquiry.

On her appointment, Evans stated: “It’s an honour and a privilege to have been asked to carry out the role of senior national co-ordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing. There’s an outstanding group of extremely dedicated, skilled and professional officers, staff and partners working across the counter-terrorism network and the wider policing family. O look forward to building on these relationships and countering the threat our communities face from terrorism.”

Successful leadership

Sir Mark Rowley, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, has paid tribute to Tim Jacques.

“I would like to thank Tim for his many years of dedicated service,” stated Rowley, “most recently in counter-terrorism. So much of the vital work in this area goes on behind closed doors, out of sight of many, not just in the public eye, but also in the rest of policing. I’m grateful to Tim for his leadership and on behalf of all of us in the Metropolitan Police Service, I wish him the very best in his retirement.”

Rowley concluded: “We look forward to welcoming Vicki to the Metropolitan Police Service and to Counter Terrorism Policing. She has been appointed from an impressive field and brings a great deal of experience to the role.”

Matt Jukes, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, added: “Vicki steps into a critical role and brings with her all of her experience gained as a senior investigator and operational commander, of working with Government, other agencies and, critically, with local policing.”

Jukes went on to state: “I’m delighted that Vicki will be joining the team at the heart of this unique partnership. We look forward to welcoming her into the senior national co-ordinator role in the near future.”
