AN END-to-end video surveillance system from IDIS is helping to enhance safety and security at Chapter White City, a recently built student accommodation in West London. The advanced solution – comprising network cameras, recorders, IDIS Center VMS and accessories – is eliminating security ‘blind spots’, improving image quality and transforming usability for the 24/7 security team at the location.
Run by residential property management specialist Greystar, Chapter White City serves students from leading institutions including Imperial College, BPP University and the London College of Fashion UAL. On-site amenities include bedrooms and studios, study spaces, a gym, social areas, meeting rooms, a laundry, secure entry and a 24/7 security team. Everything is designed to appeal to students from across the UK and overseas by providing one of the most attractive living spaces in the London student market.
Safety and well-being are top priorities for students and their families. With the incumbent surveillance system providing inadequate coverage and poor image quality, systems integrator Triple Star Fire and Security was asked to provide a complete upgrade and immediately recommended IDIS technology.
Thanks to IDIS’ promise of low total cost of ownership, Triple Star Fire and Security’s installation team was able to design a system which more than doubled the number of cameras across the site, delivering “exceptional” HD image capture of every location without increasing operating expenditure.
In point of fact, the solution provides full coverage of the building’s exterior, including entrances, storage areas and the car park, as well as internal communal areas (among them lift lobbies, corridors and kitchens).
The installation at Chapter White City has already notched up one notable success with a recurring problem of damage to parked vehicles during refuse collection being resolved within days of the system being commissioned thanks to the availability of indisputable video evidence.
External security
External security has been significantly enhanced thanks to the installation of 5 MP IDIS vandal-resistant IR domes that feature varifocal lenses, true Wide Dynamic Range and IR LED to guarantee crisp, clear images in all lighting conditions, including night-time coverage at distances of up to 30 metres.
IDIS DirectIP true ‘plug and play’ technology minimised disruption for students and day-to-day operations as it made the installation faster and easier for Triple Star Fire and Security’s engineers, with mutual authentication and seamless compatibility of the H.265 cameras and 32-channel NVRs.
H.265 video compression combined with IDIS Intelligent Codec also contributed to the reduced total cost of ownership through lessening the data storage burden by approximately 60%.
Matt Edwards, security systems director at Triple Star Fire and Security, commented: “Greystar is delighted with the IDIS solution because it gives them outstanding performance now and the best total cost of ownership value long-term, with low OPEX costs and assured flexibility. Building on this success, Triple Star Fire and Security is now undertaking more projects for the property developer.”
Jamie Barnfield, senior sales director at IDIS Europe, added: “Thanks to this end-to-end video surveillance upgrade from IDIS, Greystar now has the assurance that students are better safeguarded and also that their personal property is protected. We look forward to working with Greystar on future projects as IDIS continues to strengthen its position in the residential sector.”
