MITIE HAS agreed a multi-year security contract with commercial aircraft designer and manufacturer Airbus in the UK. The contract started on 1 October and brings together around 300 colleagues to deliver integrated security services across seven UK locations.
Mitie’s Intelligence Security Operations Centre will provide tailored intelligence that enables colleagues to identify and prevent emerging risks. Specialist teams across aviation security, site security, emergency response, guest services, vetting and Control Room operations are going to work alongside wider regional and UK security resources, thereby helping to maintain safe, secure and compliant operations.
As part of the collaboration, Mitie will invest in training and development through a new 13-month Security Operatives Programme. This is designed to equip future security professionals with the skills needed to identify risks, respond to incidents and deliver high-quality customer service. It’s going to be delivered through a Level 2 apprenticeship.
In order to support early careers development, Mitie will also create three dedicated entry-level ‘Academy Officer’ roles at Airbus sites, providing hands-on operational experience and structured pathways into long-term careers in security. In addition, colleagues will be granted access to mentoring and development opportunities that will then support their progression into supervisory and leadership roles.
Mitie is set to transition half of the company’s fleet vehicles on the contract to electric vehicles, while maintaining the fuel diversity needed to support operational resilience during severe weather or localised power outages.
The lower emission-centred fleet is expected to save approximately 11 tonnes of CO₂ per annum.
Strength of approach
Gary Culloden, managing director for security at Mitie, said: “Being selected as the new security partner for Airbus reflects the strength of our approach, which combines highly trained colleagues with specialist intelligence, risk and assurance expertise in order to deliver a joined-up security service specifically tailored to the client’s needs.”
Culloden added: “What makes this contract particularly exciting is the opportunity to invest in people through new apprenticeships and clear career progression, while also introducing new specialist support and a vehicle fleet with lower emission levels. We look forward to working closely with Airbus as we build a strong and long-term partnership.”
Airbus is the largest aeronautics and space company in Europe, in fact, providing products, services and solutions for the commercial aircraft, helicopter, defence and space sectors. Drawing on over half a century’s worth of aerospace engineering expertise, the organisation’s products are defined by innovation. Airbus is developing the next generation of aircraft to be lighter, safer and more fuel-efficient and to fly using alternative fuel sources.
