Land Sheriffs introduces drone service for customer base

As a business, Land Sheriffs offers front line security (including mobile patrols, security guarding, welfare patrol teams and CCTV deployment and monitoring) for clients across a range of sectors, among them the rail industry.

As part of the new service, UAVs can be used to conduct comprehensive security and vulnerability surveys, helping to pinpoint vulnerabilities within site boundaries, assess perimeter integrity and detect areas that may be susceptible to attempts at unauthorised access or criminal activity.

The technology will also support line of route and area assessments, allowing Land Sheriffs to identify potential security risks, assess access points and infrastructure conditions, monitor changes within operational environments and gather intelligence ahead of security operations or planned events.

Detailed picture

“Having an aerial view can provide a much more detailed picture than traditional ground-based inspections alone,” added Coyle. “It allows us to monitor large, remote or otherwise difficult-to-access areas more efficiently, while giving our teams the critical information they need to plan resources and respond appropriately.”

The company’s new UAV technology will also enhance Land Sheriffs’ ability to prevent and respond to trespass incidents. UAVs are able to monitor known ‘hotspots’ and vulnerable areas, provide live situational updates and relay real-time intelligence to patrol teams, client representatives and (where appropriate) personnel from the Emergency Services and the police.

Land Sheriffs observes that this enhanced situational awareness will support faster and more informed responses, while reducing the need for operatives to enter environments that may present elevated risks, including difficult terrain, remote locations, unauthorised encampments or potentially hostile situations.

“Safety is one of the key considerations behind our new drone service,” asserted Coyle. “By gathering information remotely, we can reduce the exposure of our people to potentially hazardous or confrontational situations, ensuring that they’re only deployed when necessary and with a clearer understanding of the risks involved.”

UK aviation regulations

All UAV operations conducted by Land Sheriffs will be undertaken in accordance with the applicable UK aviation regulations, privacy requirements, client-specific protocols and operational procedures. Pilots have been appropriately trained and authorised and are competent to conduct flights safely and professionally.
