G4S SECURE Solutions UK has won back a comprehensive security services contract with Coventry University. The five-year partnership will see a team of approximately 100 protection colleagues deliver services ranging from mental health First Aid to managing car parking at the leading educational institution.
Contract mobilisation is already underway, ensuring that students arriving for the new academic year will be protected across multiple locations across Coventry and satellite sites around the UK.The contract introduces several features, among them the full management of the university's parking estate, a bespoke Control Room and also an incident management and training platform.
The comprehensive parking service will incorporate payment capture and enforcement via Parking Charge Notices. The contract includes commitments to ‘Net Zero’ through the paperless parking management system and the deployment of electric mobile patrol vehicles and electric bicycles.
G4S is also dedicated to community reinvestment through an ethical gauge share, reinvesting surplus profits back into the team and local university charities. There’s a major focus on student welfare and mental health making effective use of a hybrid welfare-security model.
Notably, members of the security team will be certified mental health First Aiders, ensuring comprehensive peer-to-peer support for students in need.
Meeting defined needs
Anthony Roberts, regional director at G4S Secure Solutions UK, explained: “I was part of the team that won the original contract ten years ago. It’s fantastic to welcome everyone at Coventry University back into the G4S family. They were very impressed with our ability to meet all of their needs for the contract, including being able to collaborate with our expert events colleagues to support graduation ceremonies and other gatherings.”
Roberts continued: “The major factor in securing the contract was positioning the service to directly meet the client’s actual needs, with the client noting that the proposal ‘nailed it’.”
In conclusion, Roberts noted: “Coventry University also has an impressive global footprint. Our own global presence means being able to support the client overseas as well should the need ever arise.”
