Technical training director appointed at Skills for Security

SKILLS FOR Security has appointed Darrell Gilmour as the organisation’s new director of technical training. Gilmour has worked in the fire and security industry for almost a decade now, starting his career as an alarm systems apprentice and installation engineer and later moving towards sales and design with the well-known business Kings Secure Technologies.

In 2018, Gilmour took up a post with Marlowe Fire and Security for a short spell, subsequently gaining experience with varying markets and larger projects, before entering the educational sector by moving to New College Lanarkshire and a role as a lecturer.

Gilmour holds a certified ISMI Security Management Professional Diploma in Security and Risk Management, which was completed back in 2018.

Speaking about the appointment, David Scott (managing director at Skills for Security) said: “I’m so pleased to welcome Darrell to the team. He’s in the best possible position to influence the fire and security industry, while also passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of aspiring young engineers. This role will give him the opportunity to engage with employers and industry bodies.”

Scott concluded: “I’m thrilled that Darrell shares Skills for Security’s ethos of providing the highest quality of training across the UK, upskilling existing engineers and inspiring new ones.”

Skills for Security is the sector skills body for the private security sector, duly and diligently providing training, information, advice and guidance to employers, employees and trainers.
