Course Overview

A one-day BS 5839-1 fire detection and alarm systems foundation course that must be completed prior to attending any of our other TRAIN-to-GAIN courses. Designed to introduce learners to or solidify existing knowledge of the requirements of BS 5839-1 and various legal frameworks within the UK, the course covers the following topics:

• The principles of fire• Legislation standards• Need, type, selection of system• Categories• Call points• Detection• Alarms• Zones – detection and alarm• Circuit integrity• Communication with the FRS• Control and indicating equipment• Wiring requirements• Standby power• False alarms• Inspection and servicing• Documentation

Delegates will be assessed at the end of the course and a certificate of achievement worth 8 CPD hours will be presented to all those who pass. On successful completion of all C-TEC’s BS 5839-1 courses, learners can then choose to sit an exam to gain an industry-recognised qualification through FireQual, the specialist awarding body for the fire protection sector in the UK.
